About
Tiffany Sweeney is an award-winning investigative journalist, documentary maker and presenter for the BBC.
Her original reports have featured across domestic and international TV, radio and digital platforms. In 2020, she was the first person to win the Edinburgh TV Festival Debut Presenter award and was on the BBC’s Next Generation Panel. And her star is rising – her followers are increasing daily, and her BBC Three documentary “Secrets of Sugar Baby Dating” not only pushed her to new audiences, but proved her ability to speak directly to her peers in this target audience and get conversations started online.
Tiffany trained as a Broadcast Journalist at the University of Salford and has worked at the BBC for seven years. She is currently a TV reporter/producer for BBC World News and has covered Brexit, Grenfell Tower, Elections and most recently the Black Lives Matters Protests. Coming from a working class background she has developed a specialism in minority communities and is passionate about telling stories to underserved audiences which reflect the society we live in today. Her most recent investigation was on parental imprisonment and how this affects children, something she has had first-hand experience with and has advocated for at the House of Commons.
She is also proud of her Guyanese mother whose life changed drastically when she came to England at the age of seventeen. Tiffany’s curiosity and desire to learn more about her roots led to a BBC News at Ten investigation, looking at why Guyana has the highest suicide rate in the world. She then explored her heritage through her World Service radio documentary Grandma, Guyana and Me.
As her career develops towards a Social Affairs correspondent, Tiffany continues to look at injustices in society. Her authentic background and history allows her to get real voices to share their stories as well as hers.
